Save 30% Off New Domains:
Use this promo code to save 30% off new .COM and .NET domain names. This coupon expires on Friday, August 29th.
How To Use These Dotster Coupon Codes:
Even when writing the word: “Dotster”, I find that it’s one of those words that becomes harder to say the more you say it. Try it out for yourself. Just a weird observation from us.
Many shopping carts like to hide the promo code box so that you don’t even think to go looking for one. With Dotster it’s fairly straightforward: after selecting your desired hosting and domain name, you will be taken to a Registration Page (see below).
The promo code box is located just below your items in the shopping cart. Enter the code, click Apply, and wait for a message to see if the coupon is valid or not. If the code is valid, you’ll see a green check-mark with the message: Coupon Applied.
On the right hand side, you’ll see an option to “remove coupon”. You can do this if you want to test multiple promo codes to see which one gives you the best savings overall. And that’s it! You’re done!
About Dotster:
Dotster was originally founded by George DeCarlo in 1999. He was an IT entrepreneur and a graduate of the University of Portland. He’s also the founder of Woobox, a start-up that allows companies to create apps out of Facebook applications.
After launching in 1999, Dotster has grown to become of the largest domain registrars in the world with over 1.15 million domains currently registered. They have since expanded to offer shared hosting solutions and email services for their clients as well.
As you can imagine web hosting companies can be the worst offenders when it comes to power consumption. They have massive data-centers consuming electricity 24 hours a day. Dotster has taken several initiatives to become an Eco-Friendly hosting company. Dotster’s green initiatives include:
- Dotster purchases renewable energy credits equal to 150% of their hosting server power consumption.
- They plant trees for every new web hosting customer.
- They also use the most energy efficient servers possible.
According to the Better Business Bureau, Dotster’s offices are located in Vancouver, WA, USA.
A Brief Overview of Dotster’s Hosting Packages:
The image above details Dotster’s shared Linux hosting plans, but Dotster also offers Windows hosting, email hosting and VPS Hosting (starting at $29.70/month). The shared hosting starts at $3.75/month, although you can save quite a bit by using one of the coupon codes listed at the top of this post. The downside of the “basic hosting” plan is that you can only host one domain name. You do get 100 email accounts and 10 SQL databases, however.
Deluxe Hosting is the best deal overall, because you can host unlimited domain names. Of course, you can only host 25 SQL databases with their hosting plan, so in reality the domain name limit is in the 25-number range assuming you will be setting up content management based websites like or Drupal.
New Top Level Domains
As Dotster got their start as a domain registrar and continues to make that the focus of their business they have been quick to adopt the new top level domain extensions (or TLDs for short). According to their website they have new ones coming in every week. The new TLDs range from the silly (.ninja, .wtf, .fail) to new professional designations such as .website, .expert, and .technology. There are also city specific TLDs available not such as .nyc, .london, and .tokyo. There are also some specifcially Spanish language TLDs now. Dotster currently has 165 domain extensions to choose from, and they often offer good coupon deals.
Dotster Design Studio
Something that you don’t see at a lot of budget webhosts and certainly not at most domain registrars is a web design service. Their focus is on creating business websites, and the design service also includes copy for the website. Having high quality content is the best thing you can do to show up on the first page in Google search results, and this is the part that a lot of business owners struggle with either because they don’t have the time to dedicate to it or they lack the expertise. Quotes for business sites start at $49.95, but you will need to contact Dotster to discuss your needs and get an accurate quote.
Dotster also provides services for setting up eCommerce sites, and once the store is up and running they will train you on how to use it. Perfect for people who want to start an online store but have no idea how to do it. Quotes for this service will be provided after a consultation with a web designer on what sort of store you are looking to set up and how much help you need.
